I have to be real with you. I DO still get cravings! It's completely normal. I tell myself that, eventually, they will lessen until they aren't really cravings anymore. I'll share with you what has been working for me to keep sugar and bad carbs out of my mouth:
Water. Every time I start to crave sugar, I drink a glass of water. This makes me feel full and it helps me get in all my water for the day.
It also helps not to dwell on what you can't have. If I sat here and listed all the things I wasn't "allowed" to eat, I would be an emotional wreck one step away from a spoonful of cake frosting. Instead, when the thoughts come into my mind, I replace them with thoughts of my goal. I imagine myself slimmer or I think about the baby I want to have. Then, if all else fails, I PHYSICALLY grab my belly to remind me what I DON'T want anymore! Those extra 80 lbs! This is an especially helpful tactic when I start negotiating with myself: "Well, bacon-wrapped dates are totally Paleo. I mean I could just have a few..." *GRAB BELLY* "Nah, the sugar in those dates will probably stick to me for a million years."
The last thing that helps is variety. I try to eat something different every day. If I eat chicken all day, every day, that cake starts to seem mighty tempting just because it's something different. I really try to keep it fresh and mix it up. I didn't go to culinary school for nothing! Plus, then I get to share all my stuff with you and I really do enjoy that.
My house isn't 100% Paleo since my hubby still loves his tortillas and coffee (with sugar!) so I understand how hard it can be to watch someone else enjoy the food you miss. But if all else fails, just remove yourself until the craving has passed and you can go back without being tempted. My hubby is super supportive and always tries his best to minimize his non-Paleo eating in front of me, but I understand too that not everyone has that support system. If you don't, feel free to drop me a line! I will try my best to help and I can promise an ear to listen to you with. Just remember: YOU ARE AWESOME AND YOU CAN DO THIS!
What have you been doing to curb your craving?
